Did you know that alongside meeting with your therapist regularly and/or taking your prescribed medications, you can do more to support your mental health? With alternative healing, you get extra tools and resources to help yourself heal and to support your overall wellbeing. And with these different treatment options, you have the opportunity to customize your own wellness plan, finding what works best for you.
Nothing replaces your prescribed treatments. But alternative healing — like Reiki, yoga, breathwork, nutrition, and bodywork — can help you make more progress faster.
Who is alternative healing right for?
Alternative healing is a supplement to your prescribed mental health treatments. You already know that adding vitamins to your daily routine can help you boost the benefits of healthy eating. In the same way, alternative treatments can help you get more from meeting with your therapist and/or taking your medication.
If you’re already seeing a therapist at the Ventura Counseling & Wellness Center, don’t hesitate to ask them about alternative healing. They can help you figure out which treatments could be a good addition to your existing mental health plan.
What does alternative healing look like?
It depends on what’s right for you. Your therapist and our wellness counselor work with you. They help you find the alternative treatments that interest you and align with your wellness goals. Some of the available treatments include:
- Reiki: This type of healing is energy work. By moving their hands over your body, your certified Reiki healer helps balance the flow of energy. They also clear any blockages that may be holding you back from greater mental health balance.
- Yoga: Yoga is a moving meditation that encourages you to be mindful of your breath and be present in your body. There are many different types of yoga so you can find the one you like and respond to best.
- Breathwork: Your breath is a powerful tool. By focusing on your breathing and moving through different breathing exercises, you can deliver your body calming, therapeutic effects.
- Nutrition: What you eat has a direct impact on not just your physical health, but also your mental health. Addressing nutritional deficiencies significantly improves your overall wellbeing.
- Bodywork: Bodywork treatments include massage therapy and acupuncture. They work to align your body so you can take a holistic approach, helping yourself heal as a whole.
Clearly, there are a number of different alternative healing options available today. Your therapist at the Ventura Counseling & Wellness Center works with you to find the best alternative treatments to support you.
