Join Us for our Life In Transition Workshop
You’re probably familiar with the five stages of grief. If you’ve ever gone through the grieving process yourself, understanding those stages as you moved through them most likely helped you feel safer and better able to process your emotions. The five stages of grief were first understood and introduced by Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross. Clearly, she had a finger on the pulse of human thinking and feeling.
We’d like to invite you to our three-day residential Life in Transition Workshop, shaped by the teachings of Dr. Kubler-Ross. These three days are dedicated time to address – and ultimately make peace with – the past transitions and traumas of our lives, ultimately enabling us to make freer, healthier decisions and develop less burdened, more meaningful relationships.
When and where is it?
The workshop begins at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, October 26th and concludes after lunch at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 28th. We hold the workshop at the lovely Aldersgate Retreat Center in Pacific Palisades.
Who leads it?
Our Life in Transition Workshop is led by Sharon Burnett, PhD and additional staff trained under this model. Dr. Burnett was a student of Dr. Kubler-Ross and has more than 30 years of experience leading workshops just like this. She’s passionate about creating a space for healing during these three days and beyond.
What can I expect during the workshop?
This is a time to deal with the unfinished business in your life that’s keeping you from being your healthiest, happiest with others and with yourself. But don’t worry, we don’t push you into the deep end right away!
The first day starts with coffee, tea, or juice and plenty of time to get settled into your room. We start the actual workshop at 10:00 a.m., dipping our toes in the waters for a short time before we head to lunch. We create a weekend where you can gradually open. There is plenty of time and space to work into your emotions.
The majority of the workshop takes place in a group, but you’ll also have plenty of opportunities to work individually with the staff. The group time is a combination of teaching tools to help you address and work through unresolved feelings and opportunities to share as you feel comfortable.
During the workshop, we’ll use the technique called externalization. Almost every human has uncomfortable feelings that they’ve internalized and are harboring. By creating an opportunity to get those feelings into the open – i.e. externalize them – we create the opportunity to address and move past any internalized emotions or beliefs that are keeping us from being our most whole, healthy selves.
