Traumatic experiences shape us. But we have control over how they shape us — and we’re exploring exactly that at our upcoming Life in Transition workshop. This three-day, residential-style event gives people a safe place to process both past and current trauma and loss.
The workshop is hosted by our sister location, West Valley Counseling Center. They have years of experience creating a meaningful workshop experience for attendees.
Workshop details
This year, we’re limiting participation in the workshop to 25 individuals. We’re hosting the event from August 20 to 22 at Lazy W Ranch in San Juan Capistrano. Surrounded by natural beauty and secluded from the busyness of daily life, this three-day experience holds space for individuals to rethink the way trauma is processed and work toward any personal growth intentions.
We’ve built this workshop around Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’s “Life, Death, and Transition” workshops. You might know Dr. Kübler-Ross for her now-widely held five stages of grief model. During her Life, Death, and Transition workshops, Dr. Kübler-Ross helped individuals explore any unfinished business that was still shaping their lives.
Our Life in Transition workshop is facilitated by Sharon Burnett, PhD, MFT, a student of Dr. Kübler-Ross’s, who has been holding these workshops for more than three decades. Building on the Kübler-Ross workshops, Dr. Burnett helps people to identify old patterns of behavior and obstructive thoughts. Then, together, we work on processing those obstacles, using safe sharing spaces and tools like externalization — or looking at these challenges as an outside observer.
Much of the workshop takes place in a supportive group setting, but our licensed therapists will also be available for one-on-one work. You will never be pressured to share in the group, but we’ve found that working alongside others can help us open up, especially as we see others work on their own unresolved feelings.
