Whether you plan to stay single for life or you don’t have a partner right now but are still looking, Valentine’s Day can be challenging. It’s great to celebrate love, sure, but this holiday emphasizes romantic pairings. If you don’t have a special someone to celebrate with, it can feel lonely.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. With the advent of celebrations like Single’s Awareness Day and more and more focus on the importance of self-care, we say that February 14 isn’t just for romantic couples anymore.
We challenge you — our single friends — to help us expand this holiday. Here are a few ways you can celebrate Valentine’s Day, no partner necessary.
Celebrate with friends
The thing about being single on Valentine’s Day is that you’re actually not alone. You might not have a romantic partner at the moment, but the millions of other single people in the world are in the same boat as you. So why not get together with those people?
Gather a group of people for a fun V Day outing. It’s on a Friday this year, so it’s a perfect chance to live it up!
Treat yourself
Why shouldn’t you get spoiled this Valentine’s Day? Sure, you might not have a partner to buy you flowers or chocolates, but there’s nothing stopping you from buying those things yourself. You’d be spending the money if you had a partner, anyway, so it’s a decent excuse to treat yourself to a little something you’ve been wanting.
Don’t stop there! Plan a full self-care day for yourself. Whether that means hiking your favorite trail, pulling a double feature at the movie theater, or taking a three-hour bath, you do you. Give yourself the same care, attention, and special treatment you’d expect from a partner on the upcoming holiday.
Join a local Valentine’s Day event
Skip the pricey prix fixe dinner (unless that’s your thing) in favor of one of the fun events going on around Ventura County in celebration of the holiday. Here are a few ideas:
- Join Island Packers for their annual V Day Cruise.
- Check out some live music. The Collete Lovejoy Band will be playing at Cafe Fiore.
- Enjoy a delicious evening and learn how to build a beautiful cheese board at SpiceTopia.
- Start celebrating a couple of days early with speed dating at Jai Rhythm Yoga.
- Check out the various specials going on in the Harbor to celebrate the holiday.
See? You’ve got a lot of options to do something fun on February 14. Your adventure awaits!
