As weeks of staying at home have stretched into months, it’s not surprising that a lot of us are feeling the itch to get out. And if you’re a dog owner, you have a great excuse to do exactly that. There are plenty of places in Ventura to explore with your dog.
Grab your four-legged friend’s leash and hit any of these spaces for some fresh air. You’ll get to take advantage of Ventura’s diverse natural beauty at each of them.
Arroyo Verde Park trails
Arroyo Verde Park is a gem unto itself. In fact, the park is so gigantic that if you’ve never explored the trails around it, we don’t blame you!
It’s worth checking out, though, especially if you’re looking for places to explore with your dog. The main trail loops around the back of the park and is just over 2 miles long, although it has plenty of forks to make it shorter or longer, depending on your and your pooch’s preference.
The trail is soft dirt the whole way so your dog shouldn’t have any problems trekking it with you.
Ventura Botanical Gardens
If you haven’t checked out the Ventura Botanical Gardens yet, you’re missing out. And your furry friend is welcome to join you there on Wednesdays and Fridays.
The gardens wind their way up the hillside behind the Courthouse. They’re beautiful year-round and you can expect to see colorful blooms and towering plants.
They’re closed Mondays and Tuesdays for maintenance. Entry costs $7 unless you head there on Friday. That day, the gardens are free for everyone. Bring Fido along and do some exploring!
The Promenade and its connecting paths
Not into hiking hills? The Promenade (the paved path that runs along the beach in front of the Pier) offers a flat, wide thoroughfare with plenty of ocean views — and lots of other dogs for your pet to greet.
The stretch of the path between Sanjon and Surfers Point is usually pretty busy. If you’re looking for a space where it’s easier to socially distance, you can park in one of the lots along Shoreline Drive and follow the path toward Emma Wood. Or you can park along Sanjon or San Pedro Street and enjoy the path along San Buenaventura State Beach.
